Links and Selling Music Online

One of the most important parts of selling music online is getting quality links coming into your sites, and one of the most important things about getting links is to make sure that they get listed by search engines. Many people talk about the importance of article marketing and link building, but they forget to mention that if your links are not getting listed, they are not doing you any good and you are wasting you time. Dont write articles and then just forget about them, you need to keep track of whether the search engines are picking them up.

The best way to test this is to copy the line of text the link is in and search for it in quotes. You can also search for the title of the article but if it is a general subject this might return a lot of results. If you do not see your article as a result, it has not been listed, and your link has not registered and is not helping you.

In order to sell and promote your music online you must be effectively building links and getting web pages ranked. A big part of online music marketing that a lot of people ignore is getting search traffic to do your promotion work for you. If you can get websites with your music on them appearing for search terms that relate to your music, you will have a constant and stable flow of potential listeners and buyers that will come to your site with no further work required.

Whether or not your links and pages get listed appears to be random for the major article sites. I have had articles at many different sites get listed and then the next one does not, and this has happened for articles of many different subjects. What I can conclude at this time is that the search engines simply miss pages sometimes, and it may take a while to correct them.

The best and really only thing you can do is send some links to your articles. If you get enough quality links coming into an unlisted page it will eventually get ranked, and as a side benefit, you will also be increasing the power of the link. Keep track of your articles and keep sending them links if they do not get ranked. Don’t give up on them because it will only be a waste of time if you never get them listed.

This type of online music promotion requires long term vision and may be frustrating in the short term. Just keep your main goals in sight and you’ll be selling more music online.
